Meet the Maker Pierre Bowring, the glassblower (and painter) of Bow Glassworks located in The Hudson Valley, New York. Pierre has been immersed in art his entire life and it shows. His attention to detail and love for glass is reflected in his handcrafted glass decanters, tumblers, splash cups, and carafe & cup sets you can browse below.
Pierre, the son of a painter, was not a stranger to the creative process. By college he found himself at Virginia Commonwealth University studying painting and following in his father’s footsteps, but then fate stepped in.
One day Pierre walked into a glass workshop, and felt an immediate kinship to the studio and the glass artists working there. Pierre remembers “It was hot. The music was loud. They were working in teams and laughing. I had found my tribe.”
After completing his degree in painting, Pierre went on to attend Penland School of Craft in North Carolina as a work-study student. He was ready for the long hours and difficult work of glass. He often asked for extra solo studio time and worked his way to become a glass studio assistant. After that gratifying experience, Pierre worked with Anthony Corradetti in his glass studio and gallery in Baltimore.
In 2019 Pierre was contacted by Niche Modern, a boutique lighting brand out of New York, to become their Head of Production. Today Pierre works for Niche Modern and continues to make creative barware for brands like The Dowry. He lives near the Hudson River with his family and plans to open a teaching studio in the next few years. Interview with Pierre.
