House Copper & Cookware

Meet the Maker, Sara Dahmen, coppersmith and owner of House Copper & Cookware in Grafton, Wisconsin.

Sara Dahmen of House Copper & Cookware

Inspired by the outstanding quality and durability of copper and using references from original American coppersmiths, Sara hand-drills, rivets, hand tins, and polishes skillets, cups, bowls, and pots for the home. The tools she uses to create vintage reproductions of copper and tin cookware are similar to those used a few centuries ago.

The copper itself comes from Houston and is spun in Ohio, by family owned and operated companies. The handles are poured in Lodi, California, also by a family owned and operated foundry. Cast iron skillets are poured in Wisconsin, spoons are made in Indiana, towels in New York and our pottery, once again, in Wisconsin. The rest of the copper is handled in Wisconsin by Sara.

Sara was researching a historical novel when she started learning about copper and tin cookware from the 1700-1800s. She looked around for similar items manufactured today, and realized there wasn’t American copper cookware anymore. American copper cookware production had all but disappeared until a few short years ago!

Sara started House Copper knowing she wanted to bring it back. Everyone should have one solid pot or kettle in their kitchen that will not only perform properly but also last untold generations. That’s what copper cookware does, especially if it’s made purely. Pure copper. Pure iron. Pure tin. Nothing else, just the plain, pure metal and you. It’s safe, it’s healthy, it’s efficient and it’s natural, and it lasts for generations.
