Sabbath-Day Woods

Meet the Maker, Desmond Suarez of Sabbath-Day Woods, second and third-generation woodworkers in Asheville, North Carolina.

Desmond Suarez of Sabbath-Day Woods

Everything at Sabbath-Day Woods is designed and made by Desmond and their team. They craft clocks, serving trays, cutting boards, serving boards and candle holders. They live and work in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains and source their materials, right down to the clock works, in the United States.

Each wood product is hand-rubbed with our exclusive lemon Beesoil. This food-safe oil seeps into the wood grain for a more durable and smoother finish. The materials are sustainably sourced. Yes, that includes the palm wax for the candles, with RSPO certified sourcing.

Desmond learned the art of woodworking form his dad and has since taught his two sons. So many of life’s lessons can be explained through the process of woodworking. From tapping into the individual energy of a raw piece of wood, sharing your heart and soul as you cut and shape it into something useful and beautiful, and knowing you've participated in creating something that will spend generations serving someone else. It’s definitely a spiritual metaphor for life and that of the Suarez family.

Steeped in tradition and the Appalachian Mountains, this small, family-owned woodworking business represents everything they consider sacred: family, forests, mountains, animals, community, faith and the delicate ecological infrastructure holding it all together. They value time, trust, craftsmanship, handmade, American-made, sustainability and faith. Each piece is designed to be used and enjoyed today, and tomorrow, and onward by future generations.

Welcome to Sabbath-Day Woods!
