Sherrod believes clay is just as essential to a piece as the form and glaze are. The choice of clay determines the structural capabilities, texture, and final appearance of the glaze.

Clay and glaze are two sides of the same coin — they interact with each other in the violent chaos of the kiln. Choosing the right clay and glaze combination is the first step to creating wares that have the desired strength, look, and feel.
