Finding her old 7”x 7” metal handloom flooded her with sweet memories of learning to weave with her grandmother. Kate was immediately struck by the meditative qualities of weaving and loves how it unites two things that have transformed her the most ... art and stillness. Kate began teaching weaving as meditation classes and selling the warm, earthy pot holders she makes.

Kate earned a BA in art history at the University of Pennsylvania and later worked in a craft gallery in Philadelphia. She planned to have a long career in the arts until she was introduced to yoga and meditation which took her on a life-long journey of study and practice.

Kate has been teaching yoga and meditation for more than thirty years, and this is evident in her artistic practice. Kate’s experience of weaving is one of presence, awareness and ritual.

Kate Kilmurray practices the art of hand-weaving as a form of embodied meditation. Making beautiful handwoven kitchen textiles helps her to tap into inner stillness and creativity; and she teaches other women to do the same—to slow down, engage the rhythms of the body, and access a state of wholeness and flow.

By incorporating hand-weavings in our homes, we bring more depth, beauty, and meaning to our daily lives. Kate’s beautiful textiles are sold at over 40 lifestyle stores across the US, as well as speciality shops in Japan and Denmark.
