Pieper Glass

Meet the Maker, Kenny Pieper of Pieper Glass, based in North Carolina. Kenny’s handcrafted exquisite line of glass pitchers, short and tall tumblers, cocktail glasses vases and bowls are the perfect wedding gifts and a great way to start a beautiful collection of glassware.

Kenny Pieper Glass

Kenny was born in Birmingham, AL and raised in the mountains of North Carolina. Growing up near Penland School of Craft, Kenny had the opportunity to study with some of the country’s masters and to be inspired by visiting instructors and students. Beginning in high school, Kenny studied at Penland School of Craft in pottery, under Norm Schulman and Cynthia Bringle, but he soon discovered a true passion for glass, under the tutelage of Richard Ritter.

Receiving scholarship he moved to Detroit, Michigan to study at The Center for Creative Studies. After receiving his BFA from the California College of the Arts in Oakland, he worked for 16 years as a glassblower in the San Francisco East Bay area.

Kenny's career came full circle when he moved back to North Carolina, working for his alma mater at the Penland School, while constructing his own glass studio. It was here he developed his expertise in the tradition of Italian glass.

He has worked in the collections of Corning Museum of Glass, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, New Bedford Museum of Glass, Asheville Art Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art, Hickory Museum of Art, as well as many private collections.

Kenny excels in the Italian style of glass blowing. Elegant shapes and precise design motifs are implicit in Kenny’s glass. He incorporates cane Murrini, Primavera and Reticello cane techniques as well as his own variations to achieve his stunning results. His line of glassware reflects the harmony and beauty of his surroundings combined with his extensive knowledge of glass history.

Welcome to Pieper Glass!

“Glass can never be ‘mastered’ in the sense you reach a point you have complete control over it,” he says. “It’s material that begs to be worked with, not worked at. Just the act of creating is a large part of what gives my life meaning and keeps me engaged with the world.” - Kenny Pieper
